The Victorian Farmhouse Home Staging

Why we gave this project its name

The Victorian Farmhouse Elevation Shot

We couldn’t not name this one the Victorian Farmhouse Home Staging. Built in 1893 at the height of Queen Victoria’s influence, this home has all the telltale details: steep gabled rooflines, ornate woodwork, and a wraparound porch that just begs for a rocking chair and a glass of lemonade. But even more, it felt like a Victorian Farmhouse — charming, gracious, and full of stories.

Meet the neighborhood: Eliot District charm

The Victorian Farmhouse, angled elevation shot

This beauty sits in Portland’s Eliot District, a community known for its friendly neighbors, mature trees, and irresistible mix of local flavor. With walkable streets, thriving small businesses, and a strong sense of community, this neighborhood appeals to buyers who want more than a house. They’re looking for a lifestyle.

This area is also known for its creative energy, with murals and art tucked into nearly every corner. Not only did the house have soul, the street did too.

Who we staged this home for

At 2,717 square feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms across 3 levels, this home offered plenty of space and potential. We imagined a professional couple working remotely in the spacious upstairs office, or a family who’d love being within walking distance of great schools, art shops, and bakeries.

The ideal buyer? Someone who values both character and convenience. Someone who wants vintage details and room to grow. And someone who can’t resist hardwood floors, bay windows, but doesn’t want to give up modern comfort. Buyers who appreciate a home with history, but still want a kitchen that works for weeknight dinners and a dining space that’s ready for a party.

A longtime favorite collaborator

This Victorian farmhouse home staging came to us through Susan Cassidy of Cassidy Homes, a longtime client who truly understands the power of presentation. Susan consistently goes above and beyond for her listings, and she brings us in when she wants to create that “love at first sight” moment for potential buyers.

She knows staged homes show better, photograph better, and sell faster. And this one was no exception.

Staging challenge: Hone the history, freshen the feel

Homes with this much original character don’t need us to stage from scratch, but they do need careful curation.

We avoided anything too heavy or ornate, leaning instead into a light, transitional style that complemented the vintage details without competing with them.

Living Room

The Victorian Farmhouse Living room with a linen sofa and leather chairs

    • A crisp linen sofa brought softness and simplicity.
    • Leather chairs added warmth and structure.
    • A neutral-tone Victorian-style rug tied the space together with subtle pattern and historical reference
    • A mix of gold and natural wood accents echoed the home’s warmth without overdoing it.

Dining Room

The dining room with a playful mix of chairs

  • We styled a wood farmhouse table with a playful chair mix — linen on one side, industrial metal-and-wood on the other.
  • A bold abstract art piece hung above added energy and helped bridge the gap between old and new.

Features we highlighted

This home was packed with historic charm, and we made sure those elements stood out.

  • Pocket Doors & Molding: Instead of covering them, we opened them wide. We wanted buyers to notice the craftsmanship, and imagine how they’d use the space.

  • Color Adjustments: This living room was originally painted olive green from floor to ceiling. Our staging manager Michelle suggested we keep the ceiling color but paint the walls a soft off-white to draw the eye upward and highlight the detailed crown molding and tall ceilings. This subtle change made a massive difference.

  • Lighting & Accents: We brought in gold and bronze tones to play off the original lighting fixtures and wood floors, adding a cohesive warmth throughout the space.
  • Primary Suite & Kitchen: We carried that olive green into the primary suite for continuity and leaned into the soft green tones in the updated kitchen to maintain flow.

  • Kids’ Rooms: We had a little fun here, adding soft touches, playful textiles, and colorful accents to spark imagination. These rooms always add emotional appeal and help families see themselves in the home.

Together, these details helped the home feel cohesive, cared for, and ready for someone new to write the next chapter.

The result: Fast sale, happy ending

We staged with care, and the results spoke for themselves. This home sold in under a week, over asking price. While that may surprise no one who walked through the front door, it’s always exciting to watch the right buyer fall in love.

For us, that’s the magic of staging. We don’t just fill rooms; we create a story that buyers want to step into.
