What was the name of this project and why?
We named this project The Charming Bungalow Staging. While the owner recently updated this bungalow-style home, they left untouched many of the charming original features. How could you not love this sweet little Portland home?
Where is this home located?
This home is in the Montavilla neighborhood in southeast Portland. It’s tucked on the edge of Berrydale Park and all its surrounding community gardens.
What is the demographic of the target buyer?
The potential buyer for this home would most likely have children, due to the easy access to the park and the large lot on which the home sits. They would love the natural setting and easy access to local stores and shopping.
Who was your client?

What challenges did you overcome?
It was important to stage this cozy home with the right sized furnishings. Anything large would overpower the rooms and make the home feel small and crowded. The living and dining area shared the same space, each with a smaller footprint than many Portland-area homes.
We used a small, low-profile sofa and two chairs in the living room, which provided ample room for entertaining. A glass-topped coffee table was mirrored in the dining room table selection. Its 4 chairs fit this area perfectly, kept that side of the room balanced, and exhibited a brilliant use of the available space.
The bedrooms were small but had beautiful original framework around the windows. In order to make the rooms more accessible and to make the best use of the smaller footprint, we placed the beds in front of one of the windows. This rather unconventional approach proved positive, as it highlighted the window frames and made the rooms more functional.
What features were you focused on showcasing?
The many built-ins and the original fireplace are room features we always enjoy highlighting. Flanking the chairs and the sofa on each side of the living room opened the room and put the focus on the uniqueness of the bookshelves.
The kitchen had a charming built-in china hutch. We staged white china in the cabinets to show off the understated elegance of this feature.
