2022 feels like a fresh start in so many ways. Spring is almost here, Covid numbers are decreasing, and people are out and about beginning to enjoy a fuller life again. The new paint trends for 2022 and the new home decor trends are reflecting those changes. We’re still into neutrals, but they’re getting warmer and earthier than in the past few years.
So what is this year all about for our homes? It’s about making them a haven. People still want that warm, nurturing space that calms you down the moment you enter. It’s all about soft, natural colors, soft fabrics, and curved furniture. In sum? Sustainable.
2022 Interior Paint Color Trends
The major paint companies have each chosen their own “color of the year,” yet they’re all soft, warm, natural colors. Benjamin Moore chose “October Mist 1495,” a silvery-green magic to anchor the room. Behr chose “Breezeway,” what they call “a relaxed, uplifting sea glass green expressing peace and tranquility for forward movement.”
Instead of greige, think warmer with taupe and beige. Colors like terra cotta and mushroom add another layer of warmth. Olive green and rich chocolate brown touches can add depth and a sense of grounding to a room.
Exterior Paint Colors for 2022
Last year was all about light beige’s and whites. This year it’s exactly the opposite. Instead, say hello to dark olives, dark grays with nods to green, dark blue-grey hues, and even black! You’ll see lots of black trim, too. But lest you think it’s forest dark on everything, off-whites and light tans may show themselves here and there. And for those looking for a pop of brightness, it’s working great for accents this year. Especially Wasabi by Benjamin Moore.
This Year’s Home Decor Trends
In addition to these calming colors right out of nature you’ll find a nod to tradition. There’s a resurgence of vintage touches, both in furnishings and decor. And upcycling things into something new. Because overall, it’s not so much how a room is decorated anymore, it’s more how the room makes you feel while you’re in it.
People want comfortable and cozy. And usually a bright splash of happy color somewhere in the room. So for the perfect, on-trend 2022 room, make sure it has soft, neutral walls, lots of texture, an element of nature, and always — add a few plants!
